Warmer light (around 2700-3000K) tends to feel relaxed and residential; cooler light (4000K and above) reads crisper and more functional. Most homes layer both - warm for living spaces, cooler where tasks happen. The right balance depends on your finishes and how you use the room.
CRI describes how faithfully a light renders colour. CRI 80 is common and fine for general areas; CRI 90+ shows fabrics, wood and skin tones more truthfully; CRI 98 is closest to natural light. Higher is not always necessary - it matters most where colour accuracy counts.
Consider ceiling height, room proportion and the effect you want before the fixture itself. A flush mount suits lower ceilings; a drop or statement piece needs height to breathe. Getting scale right matters more than any single spec.
